The Oxford Handbook of Contemporary Critical and Cultural Criminological Theory

Kevin D. Haggerty is Professor of Sociology and Criminology at the University of Alberta and Killam Research Laureate. He was Executive and Managing Editor of the Canadian Journal of Sociology for fifteen years. His research connects with several fields to advance our understanding of surveillance, incarceration, policing, marginalized communities, research ethics, harm reduction, and security studies. He is a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair.

Lois Presser is Professor of Sociology at the University of Tennessee. She has authored or co-edited eight books and numerous articles in the areas of narrative criminology, harm discursively produced including through silences, and healing. Monographs include Why We Harm (2013), Inside Story: How Narratives Drive Mass Harm (2018), and Unsaid: Analyzing Harmful Silences (2022). She has long collaborated with colleagues outside the United States of America on narrative criminology, a field she helped found. Prior to joining academia, she worked with crime victims and conducted research on crime for various agencies in New York City.
