This handbook, edited by founding members of the Humanities Podcast Network (HPN), takes stock of the state of podcasting within the humanities today. More than 80 authors have drawn on their practical knowledge making podcasts and/or teaching podcasting to offer theoretical reflections on the medium. Each of the twenty sections comprises an introduction and three chapters, and covers a major topic in humanities podcasting, from the history of the medium, to collaboration, editing, hosting, teaching and funding. Reflecting the diverse community of humanities podcasters, the book showcases podcasters with a wide range of identities, demographics, institutional affiliations and career paths within and beyond academia. Our shared investment in the podcast medium reflects a desire to expand beyond the written text into an oral/aural form where humanistic thinking is not a solitary endeavor but a collective conversation. Each section of the book is accompanied by a podcast episode in which the authors gather together to discuss the written chapters. This audio companion offers audiences a more complete view of each topic and a space to hear the ideas of humanities podcasting in action.
