Asser's Life of King Alfred is a historical book that was published in 1904 by William Henry Stevenson. The book is a compilation of two texts: the first is Asser's Life of King Alfred, which is a biography of King Alfred the Great, who ruled England from 871 to 899 AD. The second text is the Annals of Saint Neots, which was erroneously attributed to Asser but is actually a separate historical document.Asser's Life of King Alfred is a detailed account of the life and reign of King Alfred, who is considered one of the most important monarchs in English history. The book covers Alfred's childhood, his ascension to the throne, his military campaigns against the Vikings, and his efforts to promote education and literacy in England. Asser, who was a Welsh monk and scholar, was a close advisor to King Alfred and provides a unique perspective on his life and reign. The Annals of Saint Neots is a chronicle of English history that covers the period from the Roman occupation of Britain to the 12th century. The text was originally attributed to Asser, but modern scholars believe that it was actually written by monks at the Abbey of Saint Neots in Cambridgeshire. The annals provide a valuable source of information about English history during a period of great political and social change.Overall, Asser's Life of King Alfred and the Annals of Saint Neots provide a fascinating insight into English history during the early medieval period. The book is a valuable resource for historians, scholars, and anyone interested in the history of England. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
