Recollections of Abraham Lincoln 1847-1865 is a book written by Ward Hill Lamon, who was a close friend and bodyguard of the 16th President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln. The book is a memoir that recounts Lamon's personal experiences and interactions with Lincoln during his presidency. The book begins with Lamon's first meeting with Lincoln in 1847, when Lincoln was a young lawyer in Springfield, Illinois. It then goes on to describe Lincoln's rise to the presidency, including his debates with Stephen Douglas, his election in 1860, and his inauguration in 1861. Lamon also provides detailed accounts of Lincoln's personal life, including his relationship with his wife Mary Todd Lincoln, his children, and his close friends. He describes Lincoln's sense of humor, his love of storytelling, and his deep sense of compassion for others. The book also covers some of the most significant events of Lincoln's presidency, including the Civil War, the Emancipation Proclamation, and the Gettysburg Address. Lamon provides a unique perspective on these events, as he was often present with Lincoln during important meetings and discussions. Overall, Recollections of Abraham Lincoln 1847-1865 is a fascinating and insightful look into the life of one of America's most beloved presidents. It offers a personal and intimate portrait of Lincoln, as seen through the eyes of someone who knew him well. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
