The philosophy of Gilles Deleuze is experimental. So too is the music of John Cage. But what do they share and where do they differ? Iain Campbell examines the question of experimentation by staging an encounter between two domains, music and philosophy, framed through two major twentieth-century figures in these fields, Cage and Deleuze. Through a critical study of Deleuzian philosophy and experimental music as developed by Cage, Campbell provides a new account of what it means, has meant, and can mean to experiment in, between and beyond music and philosophy.
