Nostromo: A Tale Of The Seaboard is a novel written by Joseph Conrad. The story is set in the fictional South American country of Costaguana, which is in a state of political turmoil. The main character, Nostromo, is a skilled and trusted sailor who works for the wealthy silver mine owner, Charles Gould. Gould is attempting to bring stability to the country by investing in the silver mines, but he is constantly thwarted by corrupt politicians and revolutionaries. Nostromo becomes embroiled in the conflict when he is entrusted with the task of transporting a large amount of silver out of the country. The novel explores themes of greed, corruption, and the struggle for power. It is considered one of Conrad's greatest works and is known for its complex characters and intricate plot.IN THE time of Spanish rule, and for many years afterwards, the town of Sulaco--the luxuriant beauty of the orange gardens bears witness to its antiquity--had never been commercially anything more important than a coasting port with a fairly large local trade in ox-hides and indigo. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
