The Life of William Etty Volume 2 is a biography written by Alexander Gilchrist about the life and work of the British painter William Etty. The book is a continuation of Volume 1 and provides a detailed account of Etty's life and career from 1824 until his death in 1849. Etty was a controversial figure in his time due to his use of nudity in his paintings, which was seen as scandalous by some. However, he was also highly regarded for his technical skill and ability to capture the human form. Throughout the book, Gilchrist explores Etty's personal life, including his relationships with family, friends, and colleagues. He also delves into Etty's artistic process, examining his techniques and the inspiration behind his works. The book includes numerous illustrations of Etty's paintings, providing readers with a visual representation of his work. It also includes letters and other primary sources, giving readers a glimpse into Etty's own words and thoughts. Overall, The Life of William Etty Volume 2 is a comprehensive and engaging biography that sheds light on the life and work of a significant figure in British art history. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
