Rezension

"Rapid advances have been made in our knowledge of electromagnetic scattering by nonspherical particles, and the aim of this book is to 'provide a systematic state-of-the-art summary of the field.' Thirty-one authors contributed 20 papers (each a chapter), using a consistent notation and general outline, and there is a 71-page collective reference list at the end. The book will be of interest to a wide variety of geophysicists (and astronomers) working with scattering problems." --BULLETIN OF THE AMERICAN METEOROLOGICAL SOCIETY, May 2000

"An excellent survey that will enormously benefit novice and non-specialist researchers and constitute a useful reference source for experienced specialist researchers." --Optik 112, No. 3 (2001)

Portrait

Dr. Mishchenko received an Ms degree in Physics from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology in 1983 and a PhD degree in Physics and Mathematics from the Ukrainian National Academy of Sciences (UNAS) in 1987. He was a senior research scientist at the Main Astronomical Observatory of UNAS from 1987-1992 and has been at NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS) since 1992. Currently he is a member of the GISS senior research staff and an Adjunct Associate Professor at the Marine Sciences Research Center of the State University of New York at Stony Brook. Dr. Mishchenko was an Editorial Board Member of the Journal of Electromagnetic Waves and Applications from 1991-92 and has been an Associate Editor of the Journal of Quantitative Spectroscopy and Radiative Transfer since 1995.
