Needwood Forest is a historical novel written by Francis Noel Clarke Mundy in 1776. The story is set in the 17th century and revolves around the life of a young man named Francis. Francis is the son of a wealthy landowner and lives a privileged life. However, he is not content with his life and yearns for adventure. One day, Francis decides to join the army and is sent to fight in the English Civil War. He soon realizes that war is not what he expected and becomes disillusioned with the violence and brutality of battle. After the war, Francis returns home to his family's estate but finds that he no longer fits in with his old way of life.Francis then decides to explore the nearby Needwood Forest, which is said to be haunted by a mysterious figure known as the ""Green Man"". As he ventures deeper into the forest, Francis encounters a group of outlaws who live in the forest and are led by the Green Man himself. Francis is initially afraid of the outlaws but soon becomes fascinated by their way of life. The rest of the novel follows Francis as he becomes increasingly involved with the outlaws and their fight against the corrupt authorities. Along the way, he falls in love with a young woman named Alice who is also part of the outlaw group.Needwood Forest is a thrilling adventure story that explores themes of rebellion, justice, and love. It is also a commentary on the social and political issues of its time, including the English Civil War and the struggle for individual freedom. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
