The Cath Finntraga, also known as the Battle of Ventry, is a medieval Irish tale that recounts the legendary battle between the armies of the legendary Irish hero Fionn mac Cumhaill and his rival Goll mac Morna. The story is set in the picturesque landscape of the Dingle Peninsula in County Kerry, Ireland. This book, published in 1885, is a translation of the original Irish text by Kuno Meyer, a renowned scholar of Celtic languages and literature. In addition to the translation, Meyer provides a detailed introduction to the story, highlighting its historical and literary significance. The Cath Finntraga is a classic example of Irish heroic literature, featuring epic battles, supernatural beings, and larger-than-life characters. The story is full of twists and turns, as Fionn and Goll lead their armies into battle, with each side gaining the upper hand at different times. The book provides a fascinating insight into the rich tradition of Irish storytelling, as well as the cultural and historical context in which these stories were created. It is a must-read for anyone interested in Irish literature, mythology, or history. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
