Fifty Stories from Aulus Gellius is a collection of ancient Roman anecdotes and tales compiled by Aulus Gellius, a Roman author and grammarian who lived in the second century AD. This book, first published in 1893, presents fifty of Gellius' most interesting and entertaining stories, many of which provide insight into the daily life and customs of the ancient Romans. The stories cover a wide range of topics, from philosophy and literature to politics and law. Some of the tales are humorous, while others are more serious and thought-provoking. They include stories of famous philosophers and poets, as well as everyday people and their struggles and triumphs.Throughout the book, readers will encounter fascinating characters and situations, such as a man who pretends to be a philosopher to impress a woman, a slave who becomes a successful lawyer, and a poet who is punished for his arrogance. Each story is accompanied by notes and commentary that provide historical and cultural context, making the book accessible to readers of all backgrounds.Overall, Fifty Stories from Aulus Gellius is a delightful and engaging collection of ancient tales that offers a glimpse into the lives and beliefs of the people of ancient Rome. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
