Considered by many to be the first day of the Battle of Britain, Saunders gives a blow-by-blow account of 7th August, 1940, when a convey of 20 merchant ships set sail from Dover. As it passed Newhaven, it was attacked by German E-Boats and the Luftwaffe. The RAF was scrambled and a vicious battle took place over the channel, resulting in the heaviest losses of the war so far. Saunders uses personal accounts, diaries and logbooks to examine the events of the day.
