A murdered child. A locked office. A crime that should have been impossible. While ex-con turned televangelist Bobby Earl Caldwell conducts a service in the Potter Correctional Institution chapel, his seven-year-old adopted daughter, Nicole, is murdered inside John Jordan's own locked office. The congregation was in the chapel. The door was locked. And the murder happened on John's watch. A former cop turned prison chaplain, John knows someone inside Potter has the answer. But in a prison filled with secrets, lies, and people with reasons to protect them, finding the truth means figuring out how someone committed a seemingly impossible crime-and why an innocent child had to die. But Nicole's murder isn't the only danger closing in. John's ex-lover, Laura Matthers, believes someone is stalking her. His troubled ex-wife, Susan, suddenly reappears, seemingly changed. And John, struggling with wounds he thought he'd left behind, is drinking again just when he most needs a clear head. As the investigations collide and John closes in on the truth, the former cop who came to Potter looking for redemption becomes a target himself. Someone murdered a seven-year-old girl inside a locked room. John has to discover how-and why-before the killer strikes again.
