'Lord Leverhulme was one of those special people who used talent, hard work and the fruits of his success to make a difference to people's lives for the better; this book is a celebration of a great man.' Lord Digby JonesPort Sunlight and its People offers a fascinating glimpse into the past lives of the villagers of Port Sunlight, its many visitors and its creator Lord Leverhulme - a grocer's son who became one of the wealthiest men in the world.Author Jo Birch allows us to join journalists at the soap factory in 1890, and we see Christmas cards and postcards sent by residents, revealing what they really thought about the village. Lord Leverhulme's life is also explored, with his account book, kept under lock and key for the last century, opened up and viewed.Utilising a wealth of primary sources, Jo Birch offers a nostalgic, lavishly illustrated look back at this unique village and the people who once lived there.
