    personal, eloquent and full of universal truth

    Travis Alabanza has heard a lot of key phrases in their life as a gender non-conforming black person. In each chapter they analyze one such phrase. This approach gives a lot of insight into why people say these things, what it means in a political and social context and what personal experiences and revelations for Travis hearing these phrases resulted in. Travis has a special talent of making their feelings known though writing, being able to express even the most complicated emotions in a way the reader can grasp it. This book also gives a lot of context about transphobic politics and media in the UK, naming numerous sources by name and talks about how these binary-enforcing laws and conventions make everyone suffer, not just queer people. But reading this you also experience the gender-euphoria and the joy community can give you. A wonderful book, I couldn´t get enough!
