The modern world is characterized by a seemingly endless array of possibilities, thanks in large part to the advancement of technology. However, this very same technology has also created a dilemma, as individuals must now grapple with the concepts of want and need. In many cases, it seems that anything is possible with the aid of technology, yet it remains unclear whether these advancements are truly beneficial or not.
The landscape of the engineering profession is evolving, with the focus shifting towards cultivating confident engineers who are capable of anticipating and managing unforeseen challenges. These professionals are expected to possess a deep understanding of global issues, as well as the nuances of working within a culturally diverse environment. Additionally, they must also be attuned to the human dimensions of emerging technologies, which is an area that requires increasing attention.
There are numerous questions that must be addressed, such as whether or not designing and manufacturing a product is as commendable as packaging it, and if the engineering mindset is being cultivated in the right manner. Furthermore, what should be included in a general engineering toolkit, are there sufficient challenging job opportunities in the manufacturing industry to attract top talent, and is it ethical to allow the creation of superhuman beings through artificial intelligence and genetic engineering without devising a means to manage their abilities?
The future of technology is a subject of much debate and speculation, with many wondering whether or not society is working harder than necessary, whether technology can truly improve work-life balance, and if the community is ready to face the challenges associated with exponential growth. These issues, along with many others, are of great concern to the fields of science, engineering, technology, and society as a whole.
This book aims to provide a comprehensive examination of these concerns with the ultimate goal of promoting the well-being of humankind.
