Beach Read. Deluxe Edition

My thoughts: I had completely different expectations of this book. Somehow I thought it would be a light-hearted summer rom-com, but it was much more than that and went much deeper. Shortly after the death of January’s father, she discovers that he had been leading a secret double life, complete with a house on the beach. Her despair and anger at no longer being able to ask him about it were really understandable, although I kept thinking that perhaps things weren’t quite as they seemed and she could simply have spoken to a few of the people involved. Ultimately, January is a character with a few issues and, as a result, some worries. I think, however, that she’s undergone a really great development here. With Gus, I wasn’t sure at first whether I’d be able to like him, given what he says about the genre January writes in. Basically, he’s a great person, albeit a bit of a quiet one. Especially from the point where he and January had more or less made up, I found myself warming to him. As I’ve already said, my expectations of this book were a bit different. Nevertheless, I wasn’t disappointed in the slightest, because this story had a certain depth that I really liked. And a story that starts with a deal can only turn out well. I’m giving this book 5 out of 5 stars. Despite my initial expectations, the book completely won me over. I really liked the characters and the dynamics between them, and I also found the various themes explored here very interesting. Ironically, this book isn’t a light, easy beach read, but I can really recommend it. --- Meine Meinung: Ich hatte ganz andere Erwartungen an dieses Buch. Irgendwie dachte ich, dass es eine locker leichte Sommer Romcom sein würde, aber es war viel mehr als das und ging viel tiefer. Kurz nach dem Tod von Januarys Vater findet sie heraus, dass er ein geheimes Doppelleben samt Haus am Strand geführt hat. Ihre Verzweiflung und Wut darüber, dass sie ihn dazu gar nicht mehr ausfragen kann, war wirklich sehr spürbar, obwohl ich mir auch immerzu gedacht habe, dass es vielleicht gar nicht so ist wie es scheint und sie einfach mal mit ein paar der beteiligten Leute sprechen könnte. Letztendlich ist January ein Charakter mit ein paar Problem und damit einhergehend auch Sorgen. Ich finde, dass sie hier aber eine wirklich tolle Entwicklung hingelegt hat. Bei Gus war ich mir anfangs nicht sicher, ob ich ihn mögen könnte, in Anbetracht dessen was er über das Genre, das January schreibt, sagt. Im Grunde genommen ist er ein toller, wenn auch etwas schweigsamer, Typ. Gerade ab dem Punkt, wo er und January sich so gut wie ausgesprochen haben, habe ich ihn auch irgendwie ins Herz schließen können. Wie bereits gesagt waren meine Erwartungen an dieses Buch etwas andere. Dennoch wurde ich absolut nicht enttäuscht, denn diese Geschichte hatte eine gewisse Tiefe, die mir echt gut gefallen hat. Und eine Geschichte die mit einem Deal startet, kann doch auch nur gut werden. Ich gebe dem Buch 5/5 Sterne. Trotz meiner anderen Erwartungen hat mich das Buch vollkommen überzeugen können. Ich mochte die Charaktere und ihre Dynamik sehr gerne und fand auch die verschiedenen Themen, die hier behandelt wurden sehr interessant. Ironischerweise ist dieses Buch kein locker leichter Strandread, aber ich kann es wirklich nur empfehlen.

Erwartet habe ich eine sehr leichte Romanze, aber in Wahrheit ist die Geschichte tiefgehend. Ich war wirklich positiv überrascht von einigen Plot-Elementen und hatte sehr viel Spaß beim Lesen!

Beach Read is a mesmerizing romance story about two authors, January and Gus, who are both experiencing a writer's block and so they challenge each other to write in the other's genre. With lots of charme, wit and heartfelt moments this novel will make you fall in love with January and Gus. And with Emily Henry. Beach Read was the first book I have read of hers and ever since I have been completely in love. It is one of my favorite books of all time and Emily Henry is one author I will always instant-buy as soon as she releases something new. A delightful novel, that is not your typical Rom-Com, from the incredible pen that belongs to Emily Henry. Her books always carry a more serious topic and are not always the most lighthearted of Rom-Coms. Despite that her stories always cast a spell over me and she takes me with her into this amazing world, where despite our deeper flaws and despite our problems in life there is a chance at finding love.

First Emily Henry book, first romance book of the year in general and it’s 3 am and I am sobbing quietly as not to wake anyone up and i’m not okay. Emotions aside I highly enjoyed the story. The writing was beautiful and it did not disappoint in storyline and depth. Not to be underestimated just because it’s a romance book - quite the opposite!! Loved it and can’t wait to read more of Emily Henry’s books.

This book got me out of a reading slump. I devoured it without putting it down once. It's funny, witty, and a little heart achy. I wouldn't call it spicy, but just to warn: there is some smut ;) The resolution made me cry, the ending was somewhat foreseeable for me but still very satisfactory. I put the book down with a big smile and listened to the audio book a week later. Hehe.
