This is a letter in which His Eminence Sheikh Mahmoud Shaltut collected research on women and their place in the Qur'an, and added other topics to it on "birth control" and on "Islam and peace."
Ijtihad is the method of the venerable Sheikh in research, as he believes that every thinking that is not based on the basis of diligence is doomed to stagnation, and that stagnation leads to inevitable death.
It is a mistake for people to think that ijtihad means rejecting the entire past outwardly, and to imagine that the common idea that is based on not adhering to the opinions left behind by the past makes them forget this past and what happened in it. It is a clear mistake, because our life - as a group - is this past. Our present is derived from it, and our future is built on it.
