Detective Maza and Alejandra Guerra, the vigilante serial killer known as "Death Mask," have parted ways for good. Or so they thought.
Alejandra has fully disappeared into her role as Death Mask. She has slipped out of society and lives in the shadows on her mission of vigilante justice. She helps those who have lost all hope and brings their situation to justice, specifically violent justice. Her clients can rarely pay her much, but Death Mask isn't in it for the money. She moves in the shadows, delivering the kind of justice the system won't. Then, as she tries to help one woman search for her missing nephew, Death Mask uncovers something much bigger than a singular criminal or slum lord: dozens of undocumented workers are disappearing off underground job sites, disappearing easily when there is no safe way to look and no official accounting on the books.
Meanwhile, Detective Maza is back on the force full time. But when her own seemingly routine drug overdose investigation leads her to question something much deeper and darker that might be going on, she finds herself the target of scare tactics. But Maza doesn't scare easily. She keeps pushing until it costs her almost everything... Now Maza's ex-wife, the one person she most wants to protect, is the target of an unknown, deadly force.
As Maza looks for answers and Death Mask is out for blood, their cases intertwine. They find themselves on the same dark path. And once again needing the person they each trust the least. But this time Detective Maza has to choose between losing a loved one or losing a piece of herself. No one will come out of this whole.
