Born in Hungary Nicolas Darvas received his economics training at the University of Budapest. He escaped from Hungary at the age of 23 with a fake exit visa and fifty pounds sterling to avoid starvation in Istanbul Turkey because he didn't want to stay there till the Nazis or the Soviets took control. Barron's Magazine served as his primary stock selection source.
