James Hack Tuke: A Memoir (1899) is a biographical account of the life of James Hack Tuke, written by the man himself. Tuke was a prominent Quaker philanthropist and social reformer who lived in the 19th century. He was known for his work in helping to alleviate poverty and suffering among the Irish peasantry during the Great Famine, as well as for his advocacy for the rights and welfare of refugees and immigrants. The book provides an in-depth look at Tuke's life, from his childhood in York, England, to his travels throughout Ireland, Europe, and America, where he worked to improve the lives of those in need. It also offers insights into Tuke's religious beliefs and his involvement in the Quaker community.Throughout the memoir, Tuke reflects on his experiences and shares his thoughts on the issues of his time, including poverty, immigration, and social justice. The book is written in a straightforward, conversational style and offers a fascinating glimpse into the life of a remarkable individual who dedicated his life to making the world a better place. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
