'The Unbearable Bassington', one of Saki's only two full-length novels, describes the adventures of the fastidious and likeable but maladjusted Comus Bassington. A biting satire on the conceits of high society and an exquisite novel of manners, this book is also an incisive piece of writing, anticipating the early works of Evelyn Waugh, whose introduction to an earlier edition is included in this edition. Here is Edwardian society on Saki's inimitable skewer.
