Can You Trust Your Memories?

Bewertung am 04.07.2024

Bewertungsnummer: 2237247

Bewertet: Buch (Gebundene Ausgabe)

Willa never truly got over the sudden disappearance of her then thirteen-year-old sister Laika. Many years later, Willa is invited to a dinner with friends where she believes one of the guests to be her missing sister. Who is this mysterious guest? What happened on the day of Laika’s disappearance? And how did Willa’s life evolve afterwards? I found “Things Don’t Break On Their Own” to be incredibly gripping: The author reveals the different parts of the story in a skillful manner so that the reader is trying to piece everything together themselves. This makes “Things Don’t Break On Their Own” a definite page-turner. There are several narrative perspectives which make the reader constantly question what is true and what not. Also, the question surfaces to what extent or rather whether at all memories are a reliable source of objective reality. This is due to the fact that memories alter just like the physical body and one’s appearance does. I highly recommend this novel!
