    Buch (Taschenbuch)

    Heartbreaking

The book is written in a way that makes the reader resonate with the characters immediately, especially with Patroclus who narrates the story. Even though I knew how the story would end, the last few chapters were still absolutely heartbreaking. Literally couldn’t put the book down and would definitely recommend reading.

    Lovely and devastating

Even knowing the original myth, the storytelling is captivating all over, and knowing how it ends did nothing to soothe the emotional reaction, its beautiful and sad and oh so beautiful in its sadness, it took me a bit to really get into it, but after I really found my footing in the story it was utterly captivating. Very sad, very lovely, you will probably cry and love it all the same

Greek Mythology but Make It Heartbreak City

Achilles is ripped, Patroclus is tragically soft, and I cried constantly. Heartbreaking, sweeping, and beautiful—reading it feels like stepping into a myth where love hurts gloriously. You’ll be ruined but in a good way.

    Buch (Taschenbuch)

This book has a very special place in my heart!

As a fan of Greek mythology, I finally had to catch up with this classic by Madeline Miller. The book - which, by the way, is hyped on TikTok and even has its own song for it - tells the story of the special bond between Achilles and Patroclus, who grow up together and fight in the war against Troy. Miller based this on the Illiad, but brought her own take on the love story between Achilles and Patroclus. And this love is heartbreaking! It moved me to tears at times and sent me on a roller coaster of emotions without being cheesy. The narrative is creative and well thought out and has some unexpected twists. The ending is almost cathartic. The book won't let me go even after reading it and has a very special place in my heart!

    Buch (Gebundene Ausgabe)

    A gorgeous retelling

I must say, I was a bit sceptic at first. Retellings sometimes add fictional things to them and I’m not a big fan of that. But this one is wonderful. There is no “nonsense” , you can tell Madeline Miller knows her stuff. And not just that, Miller’s writing is so, so beautiful. Altough I knew how the story would end, it didn’t make it less sad. I think I’ll have to add this to my favorite books. I loved everything about it! For everyone whon is a fan of greek mythology, wonderful words and love.

    Buch (Gebundene Ausgabe)

    Beautiful and not necessarily...

Beautiful and not necessarily for young adults only. A coming-of-age story, a tale of friendship, love and loyalty and a lesson in Greek mythology all wrapped up in one book. And well written enough that you’ll want to read till the last page even if you already know how it ends.
